Welcome to Ash Class

Recently married Miss B - Mrs Richardson is our teacher.
Mrs Rice will be in the classroom, on a Wednesday morning to teach Science and PE.
There are currently 27 children in Year 1/2.

We have a busy year ahead, and it kick starts with our ‘Islands’ topic! The children will have the opportunity to:

  • Develop ‘super sentences’ and practise their ‘SPaG’ (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) skills, Ash will be exploring poetry and recounts.
  • Our class author focus is Mairi Hedderwick; I promise we won’t be watching too much of Katie Morag.
  • Year 1 will work together to practise their phase 5 sounds, while Year 2 will be introduced to phase 6.
  • As we adventure across to the Isle of Struay, alongside comparing the two islands, Ash will explore the world’s continents and oceans.
  • Mrs Rice will explore our ever changing seasons in Science.
  • As historians, the children will research how summer holidays have changed over past times. Our person of interest this half term is Grace Darling, as the RNLI will be visiting our class.
  • Our RE focus this half term is posed by the question ‘What does it mean to belong to a faith community?’
  • Alongside RE, our values include ‘Thankfulness’ and ‘Friendship’.
  • Our new PSHE focus is around ‘Don’t forget to let love in!’

After October half term, I am very excited to introduce our ‘Poles Apart’ topic, with a great focus on explorers and animals from around the world.

Any books of interest or relevance to our topic, it would be lovely for the children to share with each other in class.
